About Me

Every client who sits in my chair has their own story, lifestyle, and vibe. My approach is about listening first and then hand-painting color that feels personal, flattering, and easy-to-live-with.

BIOGRAPHY

Evan has always had an eye for creating. He studied a multitude of media at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and specialized in fine art, charcoal and oil painting. After he began studying cosmetology in 2007, Evan worked for a L’Oréal National Academy Salon where he was introduced to the world of balayage and quickly fell in love with the method of hand-painted highlighting.

After relocating to New York City in 2014, Evan discovered Whittemore House where he began his apprenticeship in their specialized technique of hair painting and attributes this training as his greatest aesthetic influence. Since then, Evan’s work has been featured in publications such as Elle, Allure, Vogue Brazil & Marie Claire.

A hair painting specialist for blondes, redheads, and low-maintenance hair, Evan enjoys creating both subtle, natural looks as well as full transformations. His signature hair, whether bold or understated, has smooth textures, soft gradated colors, and an unmistakable effortless quality that is both individualized and fundamentally beautiful.

Evan now lives in Chicago offering his services within Vandross Hair Design Bucktown.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe hair should never feel like a burden. Color isn’t about keeping up with impossible beauty standards or sitting in a salon chair every few weeks to chase perfection. The best color grows out gracefully, enhances your natural look, and fits your lifestyle. My goal is to create hair that feels lived-in and effortless.

I like color that grows with you, not against you, the kind that looks good without trying too hard. My goal is painting color that feels natural and low-maintenance. Not fussy or overdone.

THE METHOD

I work with hair the way a painter works with a canvas. With balayage, I can choose exactly which sections to lighten, painting color in a way that isn’t restricted by the straight lines of foils. Each highlight has a natural gradation, shifting from deeper tones to lighter ones along the length of the hair.

Foil highlights are lifted to one  even color and then blended after the fact, often with teasing or toning, to soften the line and disguise a patterned placement.

Balayage is different. The softness is built in from the start, giving the color a more dimensional, painterly quality. It’s fully customizable, which means every head of hair is approached differently. The result is color that looks effortless, organic, and hand-crafted. Simple and beautiful.
